Archdeacon Peter of Pavia – Peter is the son of a high ranking Equs (knight), who has used his privileged birth to great advantage in his pursuit of power and influence. He is a canny politician, known for this ruthlessness in protecting his Bishop, the Church – and himself. Never likeable, too glib to be sincere, he is responsible for the day to day business of the Diocese, and those who do business with him count their fingers after shaking hands. His only virtue is that he scrupulously keeps his word once he gives it, though that is widely believed to be the influence of Bishop Euthymius.
