Magistrate Basi Laskaris

Basi Laskaris is the junior of two Magistrates in The Bottoms. His family (and several other extended families) fled the Songhai Empire, far to the west, four generations ago as political refugees, and have earned their place in the Arkazian Empire as learned scholars, skilled tradesmen, artists, and in the case of Basi, a Magistrate. He is widely viewed as smarter and more learned than the senior Magistrate Ovidio Tagaris, and far, far more honest. Some consider him too stern and rigid, but for the most part, those are people with ne'er-do-well family members who have ended up in Basi's court. Basi often laments the limits on his authority, and advocates a more centralized approach to justice in Pumpossa, though with little success so far. He is highly regarded by The Watch, and liked and respected by most of the neighborhood.
